It is important to address the many stressful parts of living life after a breast cancer diagnosis. First, you may have feared for your life. If you have a family, you may have worried about their future without you. These worries along with the many side effects of current treatments could severely damage your health even further. It is vital to relieve stress as well as you can throughout the difficult times ahead.
Meditation is one simple and effective way to relieve stress quickly. The Mayo Clinic reported that meditating is a great way to reduce anxiety and tension while restoring inner peace. This is an important way to enhance your happiness.
A huge benefit to meditation is that anyone can do it regardless of where they’re located. If you’re riding on a bus or train, try meditating. If you’re at work and feeling stressed, try meditating at your desk.
When you meditate, make sure to focus on one happy memory or scene and try to eliminate all of the other thoughts moving through your head. Anything you are worried about needs to be forgotten for a moment and you must focus on improving your emotional well-being. Below I will discuss six different meditation methods.
1) Guided Meditation – This is a type of visualization in which you imagine places or memories that you find relaxing and calming. You can use all of your senses such as smell, taste, sight, and sound. Often a teacher will guide you through this exercise.
2) Mantra Meditation – In this program, you repeat a phrase or word continuously to distract your mind from other stressful thoughts. By focusing on just the one phrase, you’ll gain greater inner peace, as your body relaxes.
3) Mindfulness Meditation – This process includes being aware of your surroundings and living in the present moment. It has more to do with concentrating on your experiences. You may be focusing on your breath and letting your thoughts and emotions pass through without over-thinking every feeling.
4) Qi gong – This is a part of Chinese traditions that combines meditation, breathing exercises, relaxation, and physical movement to keep yourself balanced.
5) Tai Chi – This is both a form of physical fitness and meditation. It is part of Chinese martial arts. If you’ve done Tai Chi, you know that it consists of movements and postures done in a slow, paced manner while focusing on your breath.
6) Yoga – This is also a type of exercise in which you perform specific postures and deep breathing exercises in order to restore inner peace. It also promotes flexibility, balance, and strength. It brings you closer to focusing on the particular moment in time instead of the stressful events of the day.
